Open Mic: TCK by Moriah Humphrey

I am an alien—
A hybrid of many worlds;
A mixture of various cultures.
What am I?

I am a world citizen—
Partially everything
And fully nothing.
Who am I?

I understand many of the secrets of humankind—
Yet humankind never understands me.
I consider the world my home—
But the world doesn’t accept me.

I am a foreigner—
I don’t belong here;
I don’t belong there.
Where do I belong?

I am a beloved outcast—
Loved by all,
But known by few.
When will I truly find home?

I can sympathize with the lonely;
I can identify with the homeless;
I can empathize with the lost;
I can relate with the outsider.

What am I?
I am a TCK.
Who am I?
I am a child of God.
Where do I belong?
I belong in the presence of God.
When will I truly find home?
When I rest in His goodness.

Meet the Author

How old are you?
I am sixteen years old.

Where do you live?
I just moved to Thailand, but have lived in China most of my life.

What classes are you taking with TPS this year?
I’m taking Chemistry Honors.

What is your favorite thing about writing?
My favorite thing about writing is being able to express my thoughts, feelings, and experiences with others in a way that causes them to get a glimpse of how I think and feel and what I’ve experienced. I especially love poetry because to me it’s sort of like writing in a secret code that only those who were meant to understand will, and those who weren’t meant to understand will have no clue what you’re talking about.
