Roshan Baig, Hippopotamus, Goat Hooves, Toothless, and Trouble.

Declan: Hello, amazing reader! Today, you will learn more about Roshan Baig, the fourteen year-old ninth-grade third-year TPSer. How about we start with where you have lived and where you currently live?

Roshan: I usually live in India and have lived in the US some.

Declan: Nice, what TPS classes are you taking this year?

Roshan: This year, I am only taking one TPS class: American History Lit and Comp with Mrs. Holben.

Declan: Cool, how many siblings do you have and do you have any pets?

Roshan: I have two siblings: my older sister Sophie and younger sister Sana. I have a golden retriever named Bella.

Declan: Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions this year? Any ones you were able to keep last year?

Roshan: I don’t think I have any yet, but I tend to break them. But I have gotten better at being more patient.

Declan: What are some of your favorites? Food, color, book, sibling, etc.

Roshan: Sibling can’t say because both read clay; rice and dal; Lord of the Rings; How To Train Your Dragon; goblin shark; blue; the Pirates who don’t do anything; Toothless is my favorite superhero because he can fly, is stealthy, he can shoot fire, and saves the day so that basically makes him a superhero; for my favorite school subject, I really like break; the Indian sweet gulab jamun; and I may not like having all animals close to me, but I like all animals except mosquitoes.

Cullen walks by singing I want a hippopotamus for Christmas.

Declan trying to stifle his laughter: And any least favorites you have?

Roshan: My least favorite dessert is cake. I literally will not eat cake. I don’t really like bright pink and the song: Top of the World (Because my little sister sang it so often).

Declan: Understandable. What are your hobbies?

Roshan: Robotics, horse riding, soccer, carving wood, and reading. I play the drums and some piano too.

Declan: Cool. Who is someone you want to be like?

Roshan: My youth pastor because he puts up with all the shenanigans we do amazingly well.

Declan: Shenanigans are fun. What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?

Roshan: I have eaten goat hooves in several forms: goat hooves’ soup and Jell-O.

Declan: I did not know Jell-O had hooves in it. What are some things on your bucket list?

Roshan: Graduate high school, get to jump higher than a meter on a horse, visit all the continents, and meet all my teachers in person.

Declan: Good list. Anything you have checked off your list?

Roshan: Learning how to whittle and becoming good at whittling.

Declan: Nice. Do you have good quotes?

Roshan: Yes: “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.”—Booker T. Washington

Declan: Good one. How would you describe yourself?

Roshan: Smart, somewhat patient, funny, and teasing.

Declan: Nice. Do you have any fun facts about yourself?

Roshan: I can do lots of tricks with my tongue, I enjoy cracking egg-puns, and Roshan is not my first name, Samuel is, but I go by my middle name, Roshan. When my little sister was too young to say Roshan she called me Ro Ro. Once a little kid called me “Raisin.” I have also been called “Roach.”

Declan: Interesting. Have any funny stories you want to share?

Roshan: Here’s a joke story for all those who want something interesting in this article: There were once two boys. One was named Trouble and one was named “Mind your own business.” One day, they were playing hide and seek. Trouble hid and Mind Your Own Business seeked. Mind Your Own Business started looking for Trouble. He looked everywhere. Finally, he started looking under cars. A policeman stopped him and asked, “What’s your name?” Mind Your Own Business very politely said “Mind Your Own Business.”
The policeman said, “Are you looking for trouble?” Mind Your Own Business politely says, “Yes, do you know where he is?”

Declan, laughing: I am pretty sure he found trouble.

Roshan, smiling: Maybe not the trouble he was looking for but he found trouble.

Declan: Yep, if you had a time machine when and where would you go?

Roshan: back to the dinosaur days to see what they actually looked like then take photographs and send them to national geographic to show them how wrong their photographs are.

Declan: Cool pick. Time for the speed round. DC or Marvel?

Roshan: I have not seen either of them.

Declan: That’s okay. Superman or Iron Man?

Roshan: Iron Man, he looks a little cooler.

Declan: Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?

Roshan: Hot chocolate.

Declan: Cool. Would you rather be warm or cold?

Roshan: Warm, definitely warm.

Declan: Nice. Coke or Pepsi?

Roshan: I drink both and can’t taste any difference

Declan: Makes sense. Would you rather dye your hair or go bald?

Roshan: Depends on the color of the dye. If it was pink then I’d choose bald.

Declan: Good answer. What’s your favorite Bible verse?

Roshan: 1 Corinthians 1:27, “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”

Declan: Good one. That’s all my questions!

  1. I was scrolling through clay (which I almost never read because I never learned how) and saw “Roshan Baig…” and deep down I knew I recognized that name. So congratulations, Declan. This is the first time I’ve fully read one of your articles (don’t take it personally). And I have one question… who’s Cullen? And, dude, Coke and Pepsi taste completely different but I can’t drink either so who cares… But nice job to both of you. I already knew all that anyways…
