Meet Emma Daigle: Canine Columnist

Meet Emma Daigle, clay’s 2024 Canine Columnist! A dog-loving 11-year-old who will write just about anything, Emma has lived in the state of Connecticut her whole life and can’t imagine living anywhere else. Her only TPS class this year is Spanish, but she takes math, grammar, writing, and physics through other curriculums. She’s also going to take astronomy in the coming semester. Emma is in sixth grade, and she doesn’t particularly like school, but her TPS class is one of her favorite subjects. She also plays piano and enjoys it even though she didn’t have a choice about learning it. She has two older sisters, Abbie and Sam, and a dog.

Emma has always been fascinated by dogs, and she loves learning random facts about them. She greatly enjoys playing with her own dog, Ruby, and teaching her tricks. Emma likes writing almost as much as she likes dogs. She usually writes stories, but she has just as much fun writing articles. It was her sister Abbie who first told her about clay reopening applications, and she was originally planning to apply for the Serial Story Column. She started working on her outline, but then she accidentally deleted it. Luckily, she realized she didn’t really want to write that column, so she came up with the idea to combine her passions of dogs and writing to create the Canine Column. When she was writing her example article, she realized just how much she enjoyed it, and she’s very glad she decided to apply.

Emma has a lot of hobbies. She likes writing, dog training, crocheting, learning about dogs, and reading. But her absolute favorite thing to do is dance. Every week on Friday she goes to a dance class. If asked, she would tell you that the best times of her life so far have been spent holding a tambourine, surrounded by friends, and dancing with them. One fun fact about Emma is that she didn’t want to do a TPS class at first; in fact, she actually hated the idea. But she found it to be an amazing experience once she started and has had one of her best school years so far because of it. She looks forward to taking another class next year.

Emma’s favorite Bible verse is Exodus 20:2, which says “I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery” (NLT). She likes this verse because it reminds her of the miraculous things God can do and his endless love for people. Emma is excited to be writing for clay this coming semester and looks forward to sharing her knowledge of dogs with the TPS community!
