Elijah Porter: Rabbits In Disguise, Teriyaki-Avocado Burger, and Dessert Island

Declan: Here we are ladies and gentlemen, with the man, the myth, the subject of this interview: Elijah Porter!

Elijah: Hi.

Declan: Alright, let’s start with your age, grade, and how many years you have done TPS?

Elijah: I am 14, a freshman, and four-year TPS-er.

Declan: Okay, what classes are you taking this year?

Elijah: Geometry Honors, E3 Justice and Journeys, Biology, and finally, US Government and Economics.

Declan: Nice, do you have any siblings?

Elijah: Yes, I have an older sister. She is a senior.

Declan: Let’s see; my next question is where do you live?

Elijah: I live in Washington state, near Seattle in Issaquah.

Declan: That is really hard to spell. Do you have any pets?

Elijah: I do not, but I want a dragon.

Declan, laughing: Me too! How would you describe your personality?

Elijah: Um, kind of all over the place. I am kind of crazy sometimes. I procrastinate a lot, though I try not to. I’m smart-ish, or maybe not so smart.

Declan: Sounds like a reasonable description. What are your favorite and least favorite foods?

Elijah: I love food. It’s just amazing. My favorite is any kind of sushi, pizza, or a good burger with teriyaki sauce and avocado. My least favorites are clams, scallops, and mushrooms.

Declan: Teriyaki and avocado on a burger… I will have to try that. What is the weirdest food you have ever eaten?

Elijah: That would be salt-and-vinegar roasted crickets.

Declan: Nice, what are some of your favorite things?

Elijah: Soccer, knives, conspiracy theories, navy blue, dragons, the Inheritance Cycle, My Stress by NF or Mystery by AGST, Marvel movies. Favorite smells: pie, campfire, and gunpowder; my favorite dessert is mochi ice cream.

Declan: Now for the exact opposite: what are some of your least favorites?

Elijah: I don’t have a lot of least favorites: toilet paper roll put backwards, silverfish bug, annoying music, burnt toast smell, and that’s about it.

Declan: Okay, do you play any instruments or sports? And what are your hobbies?

Elijah: I don’t play any instruments; I play soccer, like shooting, whittling, art, and drawing.

Declan: Cool! Any fun facts about you?

Elijah: I have a knife collection, I have been snorkeling, and I can lock the joints in my fingers.

Declan: Do you have any cool traditions during November and thanksgiving?

Elijah: We make twice baked potatoes. First, we bake the potatoes then we scoop the inside of the potato out and fill it with lots of good stuff like bacon, cheese, and green onions. After, we bake them again. They are really good.

Declan: You are making me hungry. Okay, if you were stuck on a desert island what three things would you pick to have with you?

Elijah: A knife, a flare, and a gun, they seem logical.

Declan: If you were on a dessert island what would you do?

Elijah smiling: Party. I would eat my fill.

Declan: Good choice, vanilla ice cream or chocolate cake?

Elijah: Vanilla ice cream.

Declan: Invisibility or flight?

Elijah: Invisibility.

Declan: Elephants or giraffes?

Elijah: What?

Declan grinning: Well, I can’t do dogs or cats.

Elijah: Okay, I don’t know. Elephants, I guess.

Declan: Pizza or burger?

Elijah: Hmm… that’s hard for someone who loves food. Pizza but it has to have at least five toppings.

Declan: Speaking of pizza, is pineapple allowed?

Elijah: Yes, definitely.

Declan: Would you rather skydive or scuba dive?

Elijah: They both sound really fun, but I think I have to go with scuba diving.

Declan: Nice, what’s on your bucket list?

Elijah: I had a list but I don’t know where it is. I think scuba diving was actually on there though. Ride a crazy roller coaster with tons of loops and stuff twenty times in a row, my record is ten times, knife throwing, being able to play drums, and electric guitar which I am learning.

Declan: Good list. What buckets have you already crossed off?

Elijah: I have been to Europe and got to see the colosseum.

Declan: Anything you want the readers to know?

Elijah: Nothing is not nothing but at the same time, it is nothing and not something. Also, 7 is the color of confusion, yellow is a state of mind, ducks are rabbits in da skies (disguise), and birds aren’t real.

Declan: That is really funny. What is your favorite Bible verse or chapter?

Elijah: My favorite chapter is Romans 8. It’s a good reminder to us.

Declan: Okay, that’s all my questions. Thanks for volunteering to be on this spotlight!

Elijah: Thanks for interviewing me.

Declan: No problem. Just remember, in the words of two very famous and very wise vegetables: “God made you special, and he loves you very much.”
