Declan: This month I am interviewing 14-year-old, 9th grader, Virginian—Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome: Gabe Klier!
Gabe: Hello everyone.
Declan: Let’s get this started, how many years have you been with The Potter’s School? And what TPS classes are you taking this year?
Gabe: This is my 5th year. And I am taking Biology with Dr Dean, English 3 with Mrs. Thomas, Spanish 1 with Mrs. Silva, and Ancient World History with Mr. Crosby.
Declan: That’s a lot. Let’s do siblings and pets now; how many siblings do you have? And do you have any pets? And your brothers don’t count as pets.
Gabe: I have three brothers, one sister, and three dogs Baxter, Gabby, and Loki.
Declan: Nice! How would you describe yourself?
Gabe: I’m sarcastic. I am told I am street smart, most of the time I am a smart aleck, but if it matters, I can be serious.
Declan: Nice, do you play an instrument or sport?
Gabe: I play soccer and started flag football last month.
Declan: Cool! Next up, what are some of your favorites: foods, color, actor, animal?
Gabe: Okay, favorite food is double cheeseburger with bacon, my favorite animal as long as I can remember is an elephant, my favorite color is green and always has been, for actor probably Tom Hanks or Sylvester Salone.
Declan: That’s a good list. Next up, what are your least favorites?
Gabe: Least fav food is brussels sprouts because of the smell. Though, I never tried them. I don’t really like the color orange; I don’t like elephant seals because they are vile disgusting creatures.
Cullen (Smiling): And handsome.
Gabe: Actually, anything but handsome!
Declan: I agree with Gabe here. Alright, who do you want to be like?
Gabe: This is going to sound cheesy but my dad. When I am his age, I want to be like him.
Declan: Maybe cheesy but not bad. Do you have any funny stories to share?
Gabe: When we went to Mexico in 2021 all the kids called my dad Santa. Also, one of them had the same name as my dad and started calling my dad Taco, so dad started calling him El Burrito.
Declan: That’s hilarious. Onward to the next question: what are some things on your bucket list?
Gabe: I want to go to Scotland and Italy. Also, I want to go skydiving and ride an elephant.
Declan: Any already done buckets?
Gabe: Been outside the country, driven an ATV, I got to swim with dolphins, and I have seen famous monuments or what I like to call them “The wonders of the US” like Devils Tower and Mount Rushmore.
Declan: Cool, the next question is: what are some of your hobbies?
Gabe: Swimming, video games, climbing trees, I like running for fun since I am fast. I like reading only when it’s a good book.
Cullen: Why don’t you have any commas?
Declan: I’ll put them in later. Now I am just writing these down. Why are you still here?
Cullen: To annoy you.
Declan, rolling eyes: Anyways, do you have any fun traditions your family does during October?
Gabe: We don’t do much, but we carve pumpkins with bible verses and crosses. If school is a tradition, we do lots of that. Did you know it is illegal to trick or treat over 14 in Virginia? But I think of it as less of a law and more of a suggestion.
Declan: Well, in Georgia it is illegal to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole and to keep a donkey in a bathtub.
Gabe: Wow really?
Declan: Yep. Next up, if you could invite anyone to lunch, who would you invite and what food would you have?
Gabe: I would have lunch with C. S Lewis so I could listen to him talk and tell stories. We would share a pint, but for me it would be a pint of root beer.
Declan: Nice one. What is something you can’t live without?
Gabe: Oxygen, my computer, and my mom.
Declan: That is more than one thing but okay. Lets do some speed questions; DC or Marvel?
Gabe: That’s asking me to choose a child. But I’ll have to go DC because I grew up watching all the justice league shows.
Cullen: Ask him his favorite fish!
Declan, ignoring Cullen: If you had to be stuck somewhere for a day would you pick inside or outside?
Gabe: Outside. I love soaking up the sun like a lizard.
Declan: The better pick. Chocolate or ice cream? I mean cake or ice cream? (Rolls eyes at self)
Gabe, laughing: Chocolate and ice cream is more dependable; cake varies too much.
Declan: Meat or vegetables?
Gabe: The obvious answer: meat! Only herbivores eat herbs (by that I meant all plants)
Declan: That was funny and kind of ridiculous. Do you have a favorite Bible verse?
Gabe: Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” (ESV) I got to see this verse in action because when we were in Mexico. The orphanage we were helping was in a city with lots of crime and poverty but everyone inside the orphanage was kept safe because they just kept doing what they were supposed to and God protected them.
Declan: Great story. That’s all the questions I have. Bye!
