Meet Hope Hoskins: Poetry Columnist

Meet Hope Hoskins! Hope’s love of poetry has always run deep. She enjoys reading, writing, and finding the meaning within poetry. Therefore, she has decided to share her interests with her fellow TPSers and online friends by writing for the poetry column! Hope lived in China for the first ten years of her life but then moved to Taiwan, where she and her family have served God for the past four years. She has one younger sister and two younger brothers who also enjoy living in Asia.

Hope, a freshman, is looking forward to her second year with TPS. Before she joined the TPS community, she did book learning with her mom, but for this upcoming year, she has enrolled in English 3. When she did book learning, her favorite subject was math because it was the easiest. However, when she started taking classes with TPS, she became intrigued by the English subject as she loved reading, writing, and learning grammar with other people.

Hope does not have a favorite food, but she dislikes seafood, and her family often eats Chinese, Mexican, and American food. Hope has not eaten any foods she would describe as weird, but she has seen many interesting and potentially not-so-delicious foods like chicken feet, a Chinese delicacy. While her favorite color is purple, she loves to wear blue. Hope explains that “I am mostly extroverted as I enjoy meeting people and making new friends, but I can be shy when going up to strangers and starting conversations.” Some of Hope’s hobbies are playing the piano and the guitar. She also enjoys reading and has a huge bookshelf in her room filled with many different genres of books. Additionally, she loves cooking, photography, swimming, and spending quality time with family and friends. Hope does not have any pets since her apartment complex unfortunately does not allow domestic animals. Although she does have a fish, she does not think it counts as a pet.

Hope shares that she is a devoted Christian and that God has had a big effect on her life. Her favorite Bible verse is Zephaniah 3:17, which reads, “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Last but not least, Hope is looking forward to writing and entertaining clay readers with her passion for poetry!
