Meet Sarah Weindelmayer: Film Columnist

Meet Sarah Weindelmayer, clay’s new Film Columnist! Sarah has lived in Thailand for a total of five years. She was born in America, and she and her family of six moved to Thailand about seven years ago as Christian volunteers. Sarah is sixteen years old, and this is her sixth year at TPS.

Sarah enjoys art, especially painting and sketching with graphite. Along with playing the piano, she likes reading and creative writing as well. Sarah has an older brother who is going into college and two younger sisters. In America, Sarah and her family have two parakeets named Paul and Cecily. Her grandmother takes care of the birds while the family is in Thailand, and they have three other parakeets, named Felix, Percy, and Peter at their home in Thailand.

Sarah’s favorite Thai food is spicy papaya salad with sticky rice, but she is unsure of her favorite American food. As an avid reader, Sarah has a hard time picking between her favorite books, but she named a few, such as the Lord of the Rings, The Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner, Ashtown Burials by N. D. Wilson, Discworld Novels by Terry Pratchett, Beyonders by Brandon Mull, and so many more. As for movies, she really likes Inception, 1917, Spirited Away, and The Lord of the Rings (although she says the film adaptations don’t even come close to doing the books justice).

She loves to be outside tramping in the woods or curled up anywhere with a good book. She also loves scavenging through used bookstores and raiding all the local libraries when in the USA.

When asked the question, “if you could go back and tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?” She said, “I would say something along the lines of an ominous ‘brace yourself…’”

If she could be any animal for a day, she said that, “I’ve wished so many times I was a bird, though I’m undecided as to which one to be. My top choices would probably either be a hawk because they are utterly majestic, or a parakeet because… who doesn’t want to be adorable and hilarious with the ability to fly?”

After waking up on a deserted island, what would be the first thing you would do? Her reply was, “I’d probably brush myself off, have one of those horrible moments where my heart starts pounding and I walk around with adrenaline muffling my ears while I struggle to accept the circumstances, and then scream. Hopefully I will start thinking logically after an initial release of panic.”

Reincarnated as an ice cream flavor, Sarah would become coffee ice cream because then she would be made partly of caffeine and not have to worry about sleep, being the very essence of energy.

It was very nice getting to know Sarah; look out for her film articles this coming year on clay!
