Meet Jericho Church: Cooking/Baking Columnist

Meet Jericho Church, clay’s next cooking/baking columnist!

Jericho is twelve years old and will be going into 7th grade in the upcoming school year, which will be her second year with TPS as a part-time student taking two courses, English 1 and Pre-Algebra (Honors). However, this is her first year with clay, and she is looking forward to sharing her cooking and baking experience with the clay community!

Jericho describes herself as an eclectic and thoughtful girl. When she is free from school, Jericho reads books, like her favorite, Everything Sad is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri, listens to music, or plays piano. Speaking of music, Jericho likes to listen to indie music (independent music, which means it isn’t associated with any major record labels) as well as some mainstream pop. Her favorite indie musicians are The Gray Havens, Johnnyswim, and J Lind. One more interesting hobby that Jericho has is sailing. She can sail both large and small sailboats, but her favorite are the small “sunfish” boats.

Jericho’s most cherished memory involves sailing. Several years ago when her family went sailing with a couple and their toddler son, for some reason, the little child held her hand almost the entire trip and wouldn’t let go. It was a very sweet experience for her and she hopes she will never forget it.

She herself has three rambunctious younger brothers, a pair of ten-year-old twins and the youngest, who is seven years old. Other than siblings, Jericho has four adorable pet rabbits and a pet avocado plant in her home. Jericho also loves to train her pet rabbits during her free time.

When asked about pet peeves, Jericho stated that it really bothers her when someone says, “No offense, but [something highly offensive].” If the person knows that the statement is going to be offensive enough that they have to say “no offense”, why say the offensive thing at all?

Even though it’s quite early to talk about college plans, Jericho thinks she wants to major in English or History because of her passion for writing. If she had an unlimited amount of money, Jericho would want to travel around the world to see natural wonders and meet wise people.

Her favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 43:1-7, which reminds her of the amazing things God does out of love for us and how he created us for his glory.
