Meet Christi Liu: Alumnus Spotlight Columnist

Hailing from Shanghai, 16-year-old Christi embarks on her second year at TPS, joining clay as a rising sophomore. For the upcoming school year, Christi will be taking six courses with TPS: English 3, Algebra 2, Chemistry, German 2, Eastern Kingdom, and Bible Survey. Although this is only her second year with TPS, she has grown to love Mrs. Williams’s World Geography for High School. Christi commented, “Through this course I get to learn all the different cultures and landscapes and history around the whole world.”

In regards to her hobbies, Christi is a dedicated pianist who practices three or more hours per day and wishes to study piano one day in college. Striving towards a piano performance major, Christi looks forward to being a piano accompaniment for choir, music drama, drama, or ballet. She’s also an Argentina soccer fan, particularly a Messi supporter, and she started to love watching soccer matches back in 2018. Christi also enjoys all things in the world of Lord of the Rings, whether it’s discussing, watching, or reading the series. She’s also learning German, which she started in 2021. When asked which goals she’d want to accomplish before graduation, Christi would enjoy learning more about history analysis, producing a short film, creating animations with special visual effects, and learning Elvish. When asked about her family, she said, “I think my sister is my best friend because we have all the same hobbies and we do a lot of things together.”

Among many of her favorite verses, she shared Job 26:24 (ESV), which states, “Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power, who can understand?” As Christi reads this, she can suddenly feel how small human beings are, and how God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and holy. It reminds her how she only sees a glimpse of His way, and that nobody can stand before him, and she is fearful and grateful for the Lord at the same time.

Christi’s favorite aspect of clay has long been the Spotlight section. This year, she’s joining in that very same section as the Alumnus Spotlight Columnist! Through the position, she can get to know different people and interview others, as she’s curious about the life they have after graduating from TPS.

As a former Alumnus Columnist myself, I imagine that Christi will do an amazing job with this column. Can’t wait to see her articles featured on clay in the upcoming school year!
