Last Questions for the Girl’s Spotlight Column

Dear faithful readers,

I write this article with a heavy heart. The publication of this article marks a bittersweet moment for the Girl’s Spotlight column, as it will be the last one yet. While change can be good, I am heartbroken that this is clay’s final month of publication. To look back at the 2021-2022 school year for the Girl’s Spotlight column, I decided to interview the girls I had interviewed before again, by asking them a few more questions.

Erika: If you had the chance to create your own magazine, what would it be called and what would you cover?

Morgan: I am not sure, but maybe Puppy Love. It would just be tips and tricks on how to keep your dog well-groomed or best training techniques, along with puppy photos.

Erika: What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?

Morgan: Calamari. It is actually pretty good. When I first ate it, I refused to have anyone in my family tell me what animal it was, and only found out later in the night that it was either octopus or squid. Now, it is literally the only seafood I will eat.

Erika: What is something most people like, but you do not understand?

Samantha: Salad dressing: it basically turns your salad into coleslaw which is gross.

Erika: Which Bible character do you think would be a great person to interview and why?

Samantha: In all honesty, I would love to interview John to try to get a better understanding of Revelations. There are so many interpretations of different parts of the book that it would be nice to have a little more clarity.

Erika: If you had to change clay’s name, what would you change it to and why?

Hannah: Hmmm… well, I feel like clay is appropriate given that the school is called The Potter’s School. So, if I was forced to change it, maybe like Pottery?

Erika: What is the craziest thing you have ever done?

Hannah: I climbed a tree for no reason, other than that I was emotional and wanted to be dramatic. Of course, I fell and sprained my ankle.

Erika: What is your funniest childhood memory?

Kenzie: One Christmas when we were around 9 years old, my best friend and I, together with our siblings, put together this whole pageant with songs and little performances. At the time, my family did not have a Christmas tree, but just had a sticker tree we pasted on our wall. For some reason, we thought it would be a good idea for us and our siblings to one by one go and kiss the sticker Christmas tree while singing “O Christmas Tree.” Not sure what was going through our minds then, but it sure is fun to look back on and laugh.

Erika:  If you had to spotlight a country you have visited, which country would you choose and why?

Kenzie: I have been to so many places, and I love all of them, but if I had to choose one it would probably be Thailand. The culture there is so different from anything I have ever experienced before, and it is such a marvelous place to visit.

Erika: What are 3 questions you would ask any character from Lord of the Rings in an interview?

Emmalyn: “Have you ever met Finrod Felagund; and if so, did you like him?” “How do elven economics work?” “Who is Gil-galad’s dad?”

Erika: If you could meet anyone in the world, who would you meet?

Emmalyn: Steven Curtis Chapman, as his songs have come to mean a lot to me over the years.

Erika: If you could be a columnist for clay, which column would you write under and what would you write about?

Aspen: I would absolutely love to be a book columnist, but really, it would be fun to write anything underneath the Arts and Culture subsection – the book columnist just appeals to me particularly because of my love for literature.

Erika: What do you think your last words will be?

Aspen: I would probably like my last words to be something very profound and deep. It all depends on how I die, and where I die, and who is with me when I die. I have thought about different book quotes or just wonderful quotes from people I admire, and I am not sure if I have decided on one yet. If not a book quote, it would be a line from one of my favorite poems. I might say a line from the poem “Birches” by Robert Frost.

So, sadly, here is where we end off. Thank you all, for journeying with me through these few months of getting to know other TPSers better. It has been an absolute delight to be a clay columnist. Wishing you all the best of luck for the rest of the school year.

Till next time,

Erika
