Elsye Alford: Piano, Dragons, and Sherlock Holmes

Mercy: Alright everyone, this month’s lucky winner to be interviewed by me is Elyse Alford! Let’s start with age and grade.

Elyse: I’m 12 and in 7th grade.

Mercy: Do you have any siblings?

Elyse: Yes, an older sister Mia and a younger brother Eli.

Mia: Hey guys!

Mercy: Alright, to mix it up a bit, I’m going to…

Joshua: Let me ask all the questions. And just because why not, we’re going backward. So, what’s your favorite Bible verse?

Elyse: Colossians 3:12: “Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”

Joshua: Great verse. Who’s someone you want to be like and why?

Elyse: Sherlock Holmes, for his cleverness and wits.

Joshua: Alright, what about some of your favorites?

Mia: I can answer this one for her. Let’s see, blue, chocolate, sparkles, horses, Aragorn, turtles, dogs, and snakes.

Joshua: Great.

Mercy: Stop stealing my article! And no, we’re going in order. What TPS classes are you taking this year?

Elyse: Latin and Greek Roots of English, English 1, Spanish 1A, and Life Science.

Joshua: No, we’re going backward. If money was no object, what would you do all day?

Elyse: I’d probably visit Europe.

Mercy: Stop it. What’s a fun fact about you?

Elyse: I am a self-taught pianist.

Mercy: Oh cool, same! If you could sum up yourself in three words, what would they be?

Elyse: Smart, aggressive, and picky.

Joshua: We’re going backward, otherwise I’m gonna bring my pet dragon in here and burn up something.

Mercy: Like you have a pet dragon (shakes head).

Joshua: I do. His name is Zurden Byrve.

Mercy: Wow. That’s such a Joshua. What are some of your hobbies?

Elyse: Ultimate frisbee, piano, church, and hanging out with friends.

Mercy: And last question, what’s your favorite holiday?

Elyse: Valentine’s day.

Joshua: Wait, that’s not one of your questions.

Mercy: It is now. I am the author after all. Elyse, anything else you want to say to the readers?

Elyse: Everybody, Mercy is the best writer of clay.

Mercy: Aw, thanks.

Joshua: She might be, now that I’m not there.

Mercy: Even if you were still writing for clay, I’d still be better. Everyone knows that. Even your made up pet dragon.

Joshua: His name is Zurden Byrve, and he’s not made up. But clearly, no one wants me here. Goodbye! (proceeds to jump out the window onto Zurden Byrve and rides away into the sunset)

Mercy: Huh, guess I was wrong. Oh well. At least he’s gone.

Elyse: Thanks for interviewing me! It’s sad that I didn’t get to meet Fred though.

Fred: Well you can be sad no more because here I am.

Mercy: Of course you came. Just in time for us to go!

Fred: Join us next time where dragons are apparently real…

Elyse: And so are talking llamas!
