Meet Kate Martin: News Editor

This year Kate Martin joins clay for her second year as the News editor! As a 17-year-old senior, Kate looks forward to her 5th and final year with TPS as she takes AP US Government and Politics, AP Micro/Macro Economics, and AP Spanish. Kate has been homeschooled her whole life and enjoys it very much, especially her ability to limit her social interactions as much as she chooses. She does have four sisters, including an identical twin, to keep her company, though, along with twenty fish, three dogs, four cats, a dozen chickens, a turtle, and a gerbil!

When she’s not busy looking after her many pets, Kate enjoys gardening, reading (especially C.S. Lewis), and writing poetry and fiction, which she enjoys sharing on TPS forums. Not surprisingly, Kate’s favorite subject is English; in fact, Belhaven High Scholars is her favorite class she’s taken at TPS so far. Kate not only enjoys the humanities but also likes science and hopes to attend Covenant College in the future to prepare for a career as an environmental biologist.

Kate is an ENFP on the MBTI test, identifying her as curious, thoughtful, and very creative, although she wishes she were less of a daydreamer. If, however, she could make her daydreams come true, she might find herself traveling to South America to see the incredible biodiversity, stepping through a wardrobe into Narnia, or enjoying a cup of tea with CS Lewis, Robert E. Lee, and her great grandmother, who she is named after. For now, though, she’s content to stay in Columbia, South Carolina and enjoy her 40-gallon aquarium–one of the best gifts she’s ever received! She is also enthusiastic to continue adding to her stamp collection of over 1000 stamps from over 60 countries!

And now to finish up with some interesting facts about Kate: if she could only eat one food for the rest of her life, she would choose pizza; her pet peeve is grammar mistakes, especially when it comes to apostrophes; while she doesn’t mind family nicknames such as Tater Tot, she hates being called Katie; and some of her favorites include pink and blue, the Rocky Mountains, and Psalm 51:12. Kate is very excited to be joining clay once again to serve with her wonderful talents behind the scenes!
