How to Decorate Easter Eggs

Easter is only a month away, and as we prepare to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior, cute little Easter eggs also start to pop up around town. Over the years, people have come up with many creative ways to decorate Easter eggs, some of the most common of which are dying, painting, or drawing on eggs. Others have come up with more unique ideas, such as carving egg shells, turning shell halves into miniature planters or candles, or pasting patterned paper onto the eggs. While most dyed eggs don’t last too long, the Easter eggs we’ll create today can last years if they’re not broken. This is simply done by removing the egg white and yolk from the eggs before painting a simple yet cute bunny on the front and setting the shell on a stand, so without further ado, let’s get started!

Tools and Equipment:

  • Any color of paint (I chose black)
  • A small paintbrush
  • A toothpick
  • A pin or needle
  • Eggs
  • A hot glue gun
  • A bowl

First, gather your supplies. Make sure to wash your eggs and pin or needle thoroughly with soap and water before beginning.

Next, use the pin or needle to poke a hole at the top and bottom of your egg, and mix the inside of the egg with the pin, breaking up the yolk.

Then gently insert the tip of the toothpick into one of the holes, and twist it while pressing down to enlarge the area. Repeat this step on the other side.

Blow into the top hole while holding the egg over the bowl, forcing the egg white and yolk out through the bottom hole. Once the shell is empty, gently rinse the inside with water and leave it to dry.

After drying, use the paintbrush to paint arcs in the shape of bunny ears onto the shell. You can choose any color for this step, but I chose to go with black.

Carefully add on two eyes, a nose, as well as three whiskers on each side of the nose.

Then paint two U shapes under the face for the rabbit’s front arms and a backward G shape for its visible hind leg. Behind the G, add three bumps for the bunny’s tail.

Finally, use the hot glue gun to pipe a circle of glue onto the bottom of the egg, covering the lower hole.

Then press the melted glue against a piece of parchment flattened over a smooth surface like a countertop, creating a stand for your egg, and you’re finished!

Display your Easter eggs around the house or give them as gifts to friends and family to help them celebrate this upcoming holiday.
