19 Questions with Grace Alons

Hailing from Colorado, a state with beautiful mountains and great hiking spots, fourteen-year-old Grace Alons is in her third year with TPS. She is in ninth grade and joined The Potter’s School because her mother found a Spanish course that she thought would be good for her to take. Being an Enneagram Type 9, Grace is an imaginative, creative, and quiet person.

“What classes are you taking with TPS this school year?” I kickstart the interview with my usual list of questions.

“Spanish 2 Language and Culture,” was Grace’s immediate reply.

“And…what are some of your hobbies?”

“Writing, drawing, and swimming.”

“Nice! What are some of your favorites?”

After a brief squint of the eye and a short pause, Grace answers, “Dogs, Lord of the Rings, Horses. I love any shade of blue, and hiking is a hobby I have.”

“Mhm, hiking is fun. If you have a bucket list, what are some things on it?”

“I would love to go to England one day. My sister went there, and it is very pretty. I’ve also heard that Italy is pretty, so…traveling.”

“Those are nice places! What are some of your talents?”

“I play the viola, and I like writing.”

“What are some words of encouragement that you would give to anyone?”

“No matter what you’re going through, remember God is with you through all of it.”

“I know that you obviously speak English, and you are learning Spanish right now, but are there any other languages that you know?”

“I’m trying to learn Russia through Duolingo, which is not at all reliable, but yes,” she chuckles slightly. “I’m also trying to learn Elvish.”

“Ooh, nice! From the earlier questions, I see your love for traveling, so where have you traveled before?”

“Everywhere I’ve traveled has been so far inside the United States. We’ve gone to quite a few states: Florida, Washington DC, North Carolina, Ohio, and Nebraska, to name a few.”

“Do you have any siblings? If yes, how many?”

“I do! I have four siblings, two brothers, and two sisters. All of my siblings have been with TPS and are now in college.”

“What does an ordinary week or day in your life look like?”

“I usually just get up and start with school. After school, I’ll go for a walk or do some writing. It depends on the week and what’s going on. Nothing too exciting.”

“What are some fun facts that most people do not know about you?”

“Oh, hmm…let me think. I enjoy dog training a lot; I’m a big fan of dog training. I used to take voice lessons too.”

“If you could excel in one thing, what would it be?”

“Probably language learning. Learning languages is definitely a sore spot for me, I’m not good at it.”

“Ayy, nice. What are some of your pet peeves?” [Author’s note: Do you realize that I have limited vocabulary, and I always use the word “nice?”]

“Ugh, pet peeves. I hate it when people use the restroom, and the toilet paper is over instead of under. It is really annoying. Also, when people don’t close things all the way or don’t turn the lights off in the area. It just really annoys me.”

“Ah yes. Now for some quick questions! Marvel or DC?”

“Marvel by far.”

“Summer or Winter?”

“Winter.”

“Cake or Pie?”

“Pie.”

“Coffee or Tea?

“It depends, but usually coffee. I’m a big coffee fan.”

“Dark chocolate or milk chocolate?”

“I like both, but if I had to choose, I would probably choose milk chocolate.”

My face momentarily reflects my disappointment because she did not choose the superior side. “Waffles or Pancakes?”

“Waffles.”

“Okay! That’s it for quick questions, and this brings us to the end of the interview. So grateful that you agreed to do this!”

“Yeah, thanks for having me!” Grace smiles as we end the call.
