Meet Christine Niu: Book Columnist

Meet avid reader and writer Christine Niu, or as she’s known by her friends, “Skittles”- clay’s Book columnist from New Jersey! She describes her Myers-Briggs type as ENTP since she enjoys interacting with people and learning new things. Christine is completing her third year with TPS for the 2021-2022 school year, during which she will be a senior. Throughout her TPS career, Christine has enrolled in quite a few classes, but she says her favorites have been College US History and Latin 1A. This year, she plans on taking 7 classes.

After she completes high school with TPS, she is exploring the possibility of a history degree, specifically war history. She quite enjoys history and English as school subjects but certainly does not share the same love for chemistry. As a young child, her answer to the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” was “a lawyer.” Now, as a high schooler, Christine is still interested in pursuing the field and wants to eventually enroll in law school.

Imagining other aspects of adult life, Christine says living on a ranch would be a dream come true since she loves being in the company of animals. Life on a ranch wouldn’t be complete for her without a cat, of course. She does not currently own a feline friend in her New Jersey home but says she would love to. In addition to cats, Christine is fond of horses since she enjoys recreational horseback riding. In addition, she fills her spare time with practicing violin and piano. She also is a game observer and does camera work for online esports broadcasting.

Regarding films and books, Christine’s favorite book is Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein, and her favorite movies are Inception, Pride and Prejudice (2005), and Studio Ghibli films. She is not picky when it comes to music genres, but when she studies, she enjoys listening to instrumental soundtracks. Two of her most played artists on Spotify are Sleeping At Last and Vienna Tang. Christine considers herself a night owl, and a perfect day for her would be one where the weather forecast called for rain and cold temperatures. Christine’s favorite Bible verse is Psalm 27:13-14: “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Look for Christine’s monthly book-related articles on clay this upcoming school year! She is excited to share her love for reading with the TPS community.
