When the darkness round the corner says that time is running out,
When everyone around you says nothing but “Don’t shout!”
When nobody is with you, though you’re in a crowd,
But the voices in your head are almost tenfold loud.
This, my friend, is despair, fall not into its shroud.
An Ode to Nonsense
Ladies and gents and dogs and cats,
To bow-legged chickens and knock-kneed gnats
A bit of strange is good for the mind,
A normal kid you’ll never find.
Anxious
My mind is a whirlwind of worry
A tempest of mad, anxious storms
For it to think that I have talent
Would be beyond it’s demanding norm
Then I think, and remind myself, “Surely,
You can achieve quite a lot
You’re a writer, a thinker
An electronic things tinker
You have talent, my friend, how could you not?
And then…
My mind is a whirlwind of worry
A tempest of mad, anxious storms
For it to think that I have talent
Would be beyond it’s demanding norm

Meet the Author
How old are you?
I am turning fourteen this summer.
Where do you live?
I live in Southeast Asia, on an altitude better suited for growing coffee than for growing poets.
What classes are you taking with TPS?
I take English 2 Lit and Comp – Mysteries and Missions with the long-suffering Mrs. Wolf.
What is your favorite thing about writing?
My favorite thing about writing is that it’s a chance to dodge whatever distraction the world hurls at you, and, if you’re lucky, a chance to catch them.
Beautiful work Silas! Your answers made me laugh – esp the long-suffering one. 🙂 Here’s to all writers being able to turn hurlings into moments of meaning! Never stop.
Thanks everybody!!! See, this is why I write, and why I can write: I have a vast arsenal of friends and family who can encourage me so well! Love y’all, Gammer and Toby! Y’all are great, Ethni and Zoey! And to those people who I don’t know but encourage me anyway, thank you so much!
Wonderful poetry, W. S.! Your witty answers to the normally boring questions made me smile!
Thanks! I plan on submitting more work later.

Nice job!! 😃 I like the way you use rhyme and rhythm!
I love your way with words, witty and thoughtful funny then contemplative. Keep writing, please!

Awesome Sy!!! Love the poetry, but I loved the interview it made me laugh! You’re right it’s kinda hard to grow poets! XD
