Meet Sierra Bostwick, clay‘s Current Events columnist for this year! She lives with her family and two cats in South East Asia. Although this will be her second year at TPS and her first year on the clay staff, she has been homeschooled for her whole life. She is a junior this year and will be turning sixteen very shortly.
Sierra’s favorite Bible verse comes from a passage in Lamentations 3:15-36. Of this piece, verses 22-24 are most impactful to her: “the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.’”
Some of the pastimes Sierra loves include activities such as swimming, exploring, rock climbing, and anything else that gets her outdoors. She enjoys hiking with her family, and she also loves an exciting game of ultimate frisbee. Sierra is also passionate about music. She plays the violin and guitar, as well as sings and writes her own music. One skill she would like to learn is having perfect pitch to help with her musicianship. She also loves listening to songs across a wide variety of genres. The artist who has had the biggest impact on her is Josh Garrels, due to his unique style and meaningful lyrics.
One thing Sierra has on her bucket list is to visit all seven continents. Specifically, she wants to visit Yosemite National Park and Japan. Her favorite place to be is in the mountains because there is so much nature to explore. Her favorite food is a Central Asian dish called laghman, a lamb, noodle, and veggie dish, which she loves because of the memories it evokes. She is also a fan of Japanese ramen, but not the instant kind. In one word, Sierra describes herself as passionate. Her friends describe her as genuine, fun-loving, caring, hardworking, and tall with a height of 5′ 10″. If she could write a letter to her future self, she would remind herself to focus on making godly decisions in every aspect of life.
For TPS classes this year, Sierra will be taking AP Physics 1, AP World History, English 4/5/6 Western Lit and Comp, and Contemporary Music Harmony. She is excited about being on the clay staff as the Current Events columnist and hopes it will give her some experience in the field of journalism, a career she might like to pursue after high school. Be sure to keep an eye out for Sierra’s articles throughout the year!
