Meet Bronwyn Dix, this year’s Fashion columnist! Bronwyn is 16 years old and will be in 11th grade. She lives in Massachusetts, USA, on a beautiful homestead with a herd of goats, 15 chickens, and three hives of bees. She has a younger sister named Morgan and one very old dog named Sweetie. Things that make her family special are their love of music, farm life, and games. On a typical day, her house is energetic and bustling. Someone plays music, someone runs power tools in the garage, goats scream outside, and Bronwyn and her sister quote the Lord of the Rings to each other at lightning speed.
Bronwyn’s name means blessed, light, or pure in ancient Welsh. Although it’s rare, she loves her name. Bronwyn would describe herself as creative, enthusiastic, and caring. Her friends would add that she is outgoing, helpful, passionate, and funny. Her favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11, which says “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Knowing that God holds her future in his hands helps her deal with anxiety.
Some of Bronwyn’s favorite activities include sewing, reading, creative writing, and archery. She got into archery through her love of the character Susan Pevensie from the Chronicles of Narnia and got her first bow when she was ten. If you haven’t guessed already, Bronwyn is a serious Lord of the Rings fan. She says that the movies were really well done, but the books have so much more depth in them. Her bucket list includes sailing to some of the Greek islands, inspired by her love of Homer’s Odyssey, or visiting New Zealand, where Lord of the Rings was filmed.
Bronwyn chose the Fashion column because she loves to sew and loves costuming. Over the past year, she made herself a Tauriel costume as well as a medieval-style dress and bodice. She also loves writing, so this column will be a great combination of the two. Her goals for the next year include getting her driver’s license and finishing the story she is working on. After High School, she is not entirely sure what she wants to do. However, she plans on being a counselor at a Christian girls camp called Camp Cedarbrook in the summers. She would like to pursue a science degree and publish some of her stories. In fact, her two favorite subjects are English and Science. She likes Science because she thinks the way God made the universe is spectacular and English because she loves carving words out of a blank piece of paper.
This coming year, Bronwyn is looking forward to writing for Clay and taking awesome classes: AP Psychology; Medieval, Renaissance, and Reformation History and Lit; Latin 2; and Honors Algebra 2. Each day holds special moments for her to be excited about. We are so blessed to have Bronwyn as our Fashion columnist this year!
