Meet the Photographer

How old are you?
I am 17 years old and have been seriously doing photography for around three years now.

Where do you live?
I am from Lafayette, Louisiana.

What classes are you taking with TPS?
I am currently in Beginner to Brilliant Photography with Mrs. Maynard, Graphic Arts Foundations: Adobe Photoshop with Mrs. Escalante, Anatomy and Physiology with Mrs. Carrier, and Art History with Mrs. Concepcion.

What’s your favorite thing about photography?
One of my favorite things about event photography is being able to capture moments in time to share with others. It’s like a physical collection of memories for people. I’m a very detail-oriented person, so I love being able to capture the smallest, seemingly insignificant moments that later become someone’s favorite photo of the event. In portrait photography, I also love being able to help people see themselves in a better light and love themselves in their photos. I’ve done a couple of my friends’ senior pictures, and all of them were so worried going into the shoot about how they were going to look in the photos and worried that they would hate all of them, but then after I show them the photos, they absolutely loved them. Being able to do that for someone is amazing.

I’m working on building a bit of a business for myself in photography called Meraki Photography by Aly.  Meraki is a Greek word that means “to do something with soul, creativity, or love; to put something of yourself into your work.”
