What do pink fluffy unicorns, self-publishing novels, managing a blog, producing plays & movies, speech & debate competitions, travelling to 10 different countries, songwriting, and belting “Les Miserables” and “Sound of Music” songs at the top of one’s lungs have in common? None other than TPS veteran & Senior Eunice Tan a.k.a. Eunicorn!
She is a 17-year-old plushy enthusiast who just moved to Charlotte, North Carolina last July from her lifelong home of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Eunice is the youngest of 2 sisters in a family of 4, and she definitely is not the “annoying little sister” you see on TV shows. She joined TPS 8 years ago and has practically grown up with the GP5-7 gremlins and her fellow crew of classmates a.k.a. Gremlin Fighters who have braved the storm of tech problems over the years. TPS is her virtual home and has helped her develop critical thinking skills and root her learning in her Biblical worldview found in faith in Christ!
From a tender young age, Eunice has always been a storyteller at heart, whether it be through writing, speaking, or songwriting. At the age of 9, she recruited her family and friends to make movies and has directed and written three films in total! This was the spark of her writing journey, spurring her to write and publish a novel and collection of poems by the age of 12 and start her own blog at 14 (toberadical.com) to share the relevance of the Bible with other young people around the world. Through this blog, God revealed to her that her unique state of being “in-between cultures” does not mean she is torn internally but rather is a “bridge” between different cultures, equipping her to be a voice for the culturally displaced to draw them to unity in Christ through her words. A significant milestone for her was definitely joining clay‘s staff as the Bible Spotlight Columnist in 2018-2019, then as Theology & Worldview Editor in 2019-2020. She loves the clay family to bits, but wishes they would install an investigative column called “Mythological Mysteries” to hunt for the whereabouts of wayfaring unicorns. She is currently contemplating issuing a petition to garner student support for this urgent cause. #Unicornlivesmatter
She already has started to miss the TPS family dearly (she may even miss the Gremlins!), but is nonetheless excited to embark on her freshman year in Eunion… oops, she means Union University this August. She is planning to double major in broadcast communications and creative writing and minor in vocal performance to pursue anchoring/reporting, writing fiction, and composing more songs–all to achieve her life mission: As a Christ-follower, Eunice strives to use her words to impact others by revealing the truth, spreading joy, and connecting people to one another.
Her graduation message to her fellow TPSers is that when all else fails… sparkles! Somehow, she thinks some of you may know what that means. TPS has shaped her character, skills, and equipped her for the future, and she will never forget its loving community. She hopes to meet more of the TPS family in person soon! Teachers & classmates will always hold a special, warm place in her heart… next to plushies of course.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A swashbuckling nanny who sang songs to children, mastered kung fu, and ate lots of dumplings and pink sparkly donuts.
Favorite Bible Verse:
John 8:32, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
“Eu are nice!” (whatever that means)
