Meet Madison Asher, our amazing Spotlight editor! A sixteen-year-old junior, Madison hails from Midland, Michigan and is in her second year both at TPS and as a clay staff member. This year, you can catch her in Russian 2, College US History, and Advanced Composition. She particularly enjoys her Russian classes, fueling a love of Russian that sparked within her a few years ago when she first read Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. Currently in the process of searching for colleges, Madison hopes to pursue a career in politics or law, with a keen interest in the role government plays in daily life.
An avid music lover, Madison has played the piano since first grade and teaches beginner piano lessons to kids in her neighborhood and in her homeschool community. In addition to piano, she also picked up the ukulele about a year ago and enjoys learning the instrument. With a diverse taste in music, she enjoys a wide variety of pieces from the Classical and Romantic eras, her favorite composers including Beethoven, Chopin, and Tchaikovsky. She also loves jazz and blues, and on top of that, she enjoys the bands Twenty One Pilots and Greta Van Fleet. In her free time, Madison enjoys reading, listening to audiobooks, watching movies, and spending time with her friends and dog. Some of her favorite books include True Grit by Charles Portis and P.G. Wodehouse’s works. Madison’s favorite movie is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
One of Madison’s favorite pieces of advice given to her by her parents is, “You can’t always be the smartest or most talented person in the room, but you can always be the most hardworking.” Madison certainly seems to apply this advice to her own life with her hardworking, dedicated nature.
We certainly look forward to having Madison as our Spotlight editor this year! She will be a fantastic addition to the clay staff, and we can’t wait to see what incredible things she brings to clay this year!
