Meet Jake Moore, our wonderful Humor columnist! Jake will be returning to clay for his senior year of high school to continue his tenure in the Humor section. He has been with clay for five years, spending one year as a cartoonist and the other four as a columnist. Last year, in addition to serving as a columnist, he also doubled as the editor of the Humor section. Clearly, Jake is as invested in clay as the audience is in his beloved “Interview Accidents” series, a long-running staple of clay featuring special guests, insanely detailed copyright disclaimers, and a multitude of doppelgangers. He has continued to write under this theme for multiple years “because people love it,” as he enjoys making people laugh.
In his free time, he enjoys buildings Legos, playing soccer, hanging out with friends, and playing video games. His favorite video games include Portal 2 and the vast majority of all Lego games. Some of his goals for the future include getting a job and visiting Disney World with his family. He also intends to train in lightsaber combat, since he says it will look really cool. His favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (NIV), because it has given him courage in a variety of situations in his life. When asked to provide a random fact about himself, he shared that although his dad is in the military, he has never left the United States.
From our brief chat, I can tell Jake is a funny, kind, and hardworking student who will add immense value to the clay staff yet again. I can’t wait to see what this master of interviews will create this year!
