Meet Elva Lu, our new International News writer. Elva is a fifteen-year-old high school junior who lives in Redlands, California with her two brothers and sister, who she describes as “awesome.” Despite living in California, Elva’s pet peeve is when people say the word ‘like’ too much while talking. “Like it’s super annoying and like it’s super common in California and like it’s so annoying,” she explained.
This is Elva’s first year with clay, but her second year with TPS. Last year she took Precalculus, AP Spanish, and Advanced Composition, and said that they triple-tied as her favorite classes. Like her favorite classes, Elva has three songs that are also triple-tied as her favorite Christian music: Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, I Will Rise, and I Have a Maker, which she loves because they lift her up. She also enjoys classical music and the soundtracks Concerning Hobbits from Lord of the Rings and Married Life from Up.
As for Elva’s interests, she likes to surf, swim, camp, bake, hike, read, and write. She also has been doing speech and debate, piano, and ballet for four years. Since we’re in the business of triples in this article, I suppose you could say Elva is a triple threat with extracurriculars like those!
Now for some fun facts about Elva. When asked what topic on which she would give a spontaneous presentation, Elva said she would present on how ballet is a sport. Her most optimal nap conditions are soothing classical music (with cello), a comfortable pillow, and a hammock. She also said that she rates koalas, hairbrushes, and the movie Amazing Grace 5/5 stars. And finally, Elva’s favorite Bible verse is 1 John 3:20, “If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.”
A fresh face with many talents and a great sense of humor, Elva is going to be a great addition not only for the News section, but for clay as a whole.
