You’re waiting on the sidewalk, watching the cars speed by, hoping you’re lucky enough to catch a glimpse of him as he enters the stadium. You start to think about what you would tell everyone if you actually got to see him in person… Chuckling to yourself, you wonder if they’d even believe you.
The hum of an engine shakes you out of your reverie, and you look up to see a shiny black limo pulling over to the sidewalk a short distance from you. A burly bodyguard in a pristine suit and impenetrably dark shades opens the door, and you see a mass of dirty blond rise out from behind it. Ah, yes, the sportsman’s trademark golden hair.
The reporters and paparazzi have noticed his arrival by now, and are starting to follow him toward the stadium entrance. The guards are pushing back the ones that try to get too close, so you figure your best bet is to stay put on your piece of sidewalk.
You shake off your thoughts and look away from the crowd, turning toward where he’s about to pass you on the sidewalk. Instead of passing by you with the same steady stride he does with all the other fans, he slows his pace as he passes you.
Time freezes as he looks into your eyes and smiles at you. Well, maybe it wasn’t exactly a full smile, per se, but it was still at you!
You grin mindlessly back at him as he continues on his path, awestruck that he even noticed you. This is the guy that most people spend their whole live hoping to catch a glimpse of, and he just saw you standing there, and took moments of his precious time to smile at you!
You’ve always believed what you heard about him, that he was different from the others in his field. That he stood out. That he was kind to the people he interacted with. But now you had seen it for yourself. He’d already been cool in your mind, but now he was even cooler.
The man of the month this time is Caleb Moreau, a seventeen-year-old junior living in China. He lived several years in America, followed by one year in England before moving to China, where he’s now lived for eleven years as the second oldest of four siblings.
Caleb enjoys listening to most styles of music—as long as it isn’t classical, country, or pop. He does see himself as a big rap fan though, and also listens to a large amount of alternative music. Some of his favorite artists are NF, Imagine Dragons, and Twenty One Pilots. As far as movies, he enjoys the Lord of the Rings series, all the Marvel movies, Hacksaw Ridge, and Arrival. He enjoys many books, but Harry Potter remains his favorite series.
A true sportsman, Caleb loves watching and playing pretty much all varieties of sports, and sorry to you Patriots fans out there, but he’s quite proud of his team, the Eagles, for winning the 52nd Super Bowl. But let’s not start any fights here, please.
Caleb truly has high aspirations for his future. He says he intends to “survive high school and go to college somewhere”. We feel you, Caleb. In slightly more specific terms, Caleb says he expects to either take advantage of in-state tuition at a Virginia public university, or to choose a school close to Philadelphia.
When asked what his favorite Bible verse is, Caleb replies that he doesn’t really have one that spans across the various tides of life. Rather, it depends on where he is in his spiritual walk at the time, and what God uses to speak to him. One passage that has been speaking to him recently is Ephesians 3:14-19:
For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
He says that this passage has encouraged him through the long drudgery of beginning a new school-year—something that every student needs, often especially at the start of the school-year.
For a quote, Caleb was generous enough to share a personal mantra of his: “I keep asking myself ‘What If?’ To me, this kind of serves as a reminder that anything is possible and dreams are never too crazy (if you’re willing to put in the work), especially with an all powerful God, and also that there is always hope. Also, it kinda serves as a reminder/warning to make sure I don’t life a live full of regrets, where I always finding myself asking/wishing ‘what if’ or ‘if only’ in a negative sense.”
Caleb endeavors to live a life of willingness to follow where God leads him, whether that means stepping out and acting boldly, or “kneel[ing] before the Father, . . . being rooted and established in love”.
And to think, even after seeing this in him, they wondered why he didn’t fit into The World.
