After a few ice-breaker questions, Leanne’s quiet demeanor begins to fall away, and a fun bubbly personality emerges. It’s not long before my conversations with this sixth year TPSer sparks to life. She loves asking questions, especially the very serious ones like, “If you were a crayon, what color would you be and why?”
A junior in high school, Leanne lives on the outskirts of Ottawa, Ontario with her family of seven and her sheep, ewes, puppy, and cats. Throughout her years with TPS she has taken a variety of classes, but French and English have been her favorites. She has especially enjoyed her French class with Madame Starosciak, also known as Madame S. Madame S has helped Leanne realize that learning a language is not just about grammar and pronunciation, but also about the culture of the language. A class Leanne is especially looking forward to this coming school year is Graphic Design.
During the school year when school gets hard, Leanne remembers her aunt. Despite being diagnosed with cancer, Leanne’s aunt continued to show incredible strength by praising God throughout that hard time. The relationship Leanne’s aunt had with God helped root Leanne’s faith and make it her own. One of Leanne’s favorite Bible verses is Psalms 31:24, “Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!” (ESV.)
Not only is Leanne inspired by the people around her, but also by the little things in nature such as shining snow, the sunset, and waves on the beach. She captures the beauty of these things while enjoying one of her favorite pastimes, photography. Although she began as a landscape photographer, Leanne has developed a love for portraits. This love for photography has lead Leanne to become one of clay’s Public Relations photographers. Besides being on the Public Relations team, Leanne will also be a writer for the International News Column.
It’s no surprise that someone who loves photography and writing also enjoys reading. Some of her favorite books include the Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery and Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. Although not everyone is an avid reader like Leanne, she may strike a chord when it comes to her diverse taste in music. She listens to anything from classical to 70’s rock to pop music. You are sure to connect with Leanne whether it’s through photography, writing, reading, or music.
I have now introduced to you our PR photographer and International News Columnist, Leanne Zuiderveen!
