Meet Daniel Robb, this year’s Guys’ Spotlight columnist! Daniel was born in Beijing, China, and lived there most of his life, but now resides in Ningbo, just south of Shanghai. During the summer, he lives in the Michigan and Ohio area. He is the youngest in his family, with one older sister. At seventeen years old and going into his senior year, Daniel enters his third year at TPS, but wishes he started sooner. He says it is an awesome program and that he loves the community. He really enjoyed going to TPS camp this past summer and meeting a lot of his friends in person. This year Daniel will be taking Computer Programming in Java, Graphic Arts: Adobe Illustrator, and E6: College American Lit and Comp. His plan after high school is to go to a liberal arts college, probably in Michigan or Ohio. He’s not sure what he wants to study yet, but some possibilities are film or maybe chemistry.
Apart from school, Daniel works on a fantasy-adventure novel, enjoys listening to music while hoping to write his own someday, and pursues the rank of Eagle Scout. He has worked very hard on his novel, and he plans to make it into a series of several books and possibly a film. One place Daniel wants to visit is Ireland. He says all of the British Isles have a magical sense and he wants to travel to them all, but Ireland takes the top spot. One of his favorite quotes would be from Thorin in The Hobbit: “If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” And Daniel’s favorite bible verse is Daniel 3:17: “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and He will rescue us from your hand, O king.” Our own Daniel said “I love how it shows God’s awesome power and love for us, and also how it demonstrates such intense faith in Him. I mean, it takes serious nerve to say to the ruler of the land ‘Yeah, go ahead: send me and my friends to a cruel and inescapable death, because I’m not gonna dishonor my God, and He’s not going to let you think you’ve won, O king.’ That’s the kind of faith I want.”
On the Myers-Briggs Personality Test, Daniel is an ISTJ, and his Enneagram is a 5w6. He has grown to love the family’s Toyota Sienna after spending a lot of time in it. When asked what he would do if he had the power to freeze time across the world for a day, he answered “I would probably go around and observe as many people as I can and see what they are, or could be, doing with their day, just to get a better picture of what daily life looks for different people.” We look forward to what Daniel has to offer the clay.
