Meet Cassie Disharoon: Your Strange But True Columnist!

A sweaty, splotchy-faced girl just finished three hours of dance rehearsal.  She is on her way to a family lunch and had no time to go home, so she changes clothes in the studio bathroom and is now doing her makeup in the car. She finishes, and looking beautiful inside and out, runs off to have an amazing time with her family at lunch.  However, when she gets home afterwards, she looks into the mirror and realizes that she forgot to blend the concealer on the side of her forehead.  She prays that her family thought that it was a birthmark.

This aforementioned individual is none other than 15-year-old Cassie Disharoon, your writer for this year’s Strange But True column!  For her second year with clay, she chose to do a Strange But True column because “it sounded new, fun, and interesting.”  This 11th grader has the Myers-Briggs personality type ISTJ and currently resides in Florida, although she lived most of her life in Texas.  This coming year will be her third year with TPS, and she will be taking Spanish 3, AP English Language and Composition, and Pre-calculus.  If she were to describe herself in four words, these words would be “Does too much. Always.”  Whether she is trying new hobbies or setting her school schedule, she always takes on slightly more than she can actually handle.

She has one younger brother, whom she loves very much despite his obsession with video games.  In terms of music, her favorite band of all time is Twenty One Pilots, although she also listen to Panic! At the Disco, AJR, Billie Eilish, and occasionally Sabrina Carpenter.  In addition, Cassie enjoys listening to musical soundtracks. Some of her favorite soundtracks are from Dear Evan HansenNewsiesHamilton, and The Last Five Years.  She has always loved every single book of the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan.  On the side, she enjoys reading The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer and anything written by Edgar Allen Poe.

Cassie recently did some thinking and made some college-related decisions (even though she said that they might change later).  She would like to major in Communications and possibly minor in Psychology.  She hopes to get into an honors college program so that she can possibly get funding to spend at least one college semester studying abroad.  Upon graduation, she wants to pursue a career as a journalist, TV/film producer, or both.  Her favorite Bible passage is Matthew 7:1-2, which says “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.  For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Cassie likes these two verses because they are a constant reminder that we are called to love one another instead of spreading hatred and judgment.

Make sure to check clay every month for one of Cassie’s articles.  We look forward to what she will do this year with her creative Strange But True column!
