It was a crisp fall Sunday morning when God opened my eyes to all the blessings He has given me.
I know a lot of students can relate to me in this, but getting ready for church, early on Sunday morning, is not easy. First of all, I don’t enjoy waking up early, and second, when I do end up getting out of bed to get ready, I move slower than a turtle. Usually, I’m the last one out the door, at the very last minute, while my family is waiting for me in the car. But this morning was different. I found myself ready early for a change. Taking advantage of the opportunity, I went outside, put my Bible in the car, and began to look around. I live in the middle of the woods in Michigan, so fall is particularly beautiful. I decided to go for a walk, even though I knew we would be leaving for church soon. As I was walking around, I was in awe of God’s masterpiece, and I began to pray. I thanked God for all of His creation and for the little surprises He sent my way during the week. I also thanked Him for dying for me. I prayed over my upcoming week and that He would help me to persevere to get all of my school work done. I thanked him for my friends and family, whom I love very much, and when I finished praying, I felt so good. I just stood there amidst His marvelous creation, the morning sun on my face, and I could feel the Holy Spirit right there with me. This moment was God’s gentle way of reminding me that He is always with me, even if I forget or am unaware. During the week, I’m very distracted by school and dance, and I sometimes forget just to stop and talk to God wherever I am; He loves it when we talk to Him! I encourage all of you this Thanksgiving season to take time to thank and talk to God. When I come to God with a thankful heart, I am filled immediately with joy. I would encourage you to think about what Thanksgiving is all about and take some quiet moments with Him. I’m going to leave you with a few verses about giving thanks, and I hope you think about what the words are truly saying.
1 Chronicles 16:34
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.
That my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever!
Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His name.
