Josh Ackerson is a rising sophomore (literally, he’s 6 foot 2 inches tall) in his third year at TPS. He has two siblings: Julia, the book review columnist, who took the featured picture of him, and his younger brother Jacob. He also has two dogs, Macey and Chloe, and a frog named Lenny. Born on March 14th, 2002, in Hebron, Kentucky, Josh has been raised in the same house for over 15 years.
Josh’s hobbies include sports, doing trick shots, and video games. He enjoys football, basketball, and hockey. He used to play on football, wrestling, baseball, and hockey teams, but currently he just plays U19 recreational basketball with sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and can dunk on an eight-foot rim. Josh is going to act in his first play this winter, a production called The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. He plans to try out for the parts of the Father or Leroy Herdman. He enjoys fishing, biking, and hunting as well.
Josh enjoys music along the lines of Christian rap and hip-hop. His favorite artists include NF, Lecrae, tobyMac, and Andy Mineo. His favorite things to watch on TV are the crime shows Criminal Minds and Blacklist. Additionally, he “really likes” Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings. As far as books, he enjoys reading The Naturals books by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, the Maze Runner and Eye of Minds series by James Dashner, and the Hunger Games books by Suzanne Collins. His favorite meal is breakfast, and his favorite foods include eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, basically every fruit, chocolate, and s’mores.
This year, Josh is taking Physics with Professor Hunter and Bible Survey with Dr. Juneman. His non-TPS classes include High School Composition, Literature, Logic, Rhetoric, and AP Latin through Memoria Press Online Academy, and Saxon Math at home. His favorite class is science, which is Physics this year. Josh’s favorite TPS class last year, however, was “Medieval, Renaissance, and Reformation History, Literature, and Composition” with Mr. Crosby and Mrs. Troxell, in which he was dubbed the Killer Croc of the HLC Squad.
His personality type is ISFP-T on the MBTI scale, which basically means he’s an observant introvert with feelings. As a career, he would like to go into the medical field as either a surgeon (performing the surgeries on patients) or a pediatrician (doing routine check-ups on child patients).
Josh’s favorite Bible verse is 2 Corinthians 5:17, which states: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away, behold, the new has come.” He likes this scripture because it reminds him that he’s not who he was before Christ; he is born again and a new creation under Christ Jesus.
When I asked Josh if I could interview him for clay, he simply said, “Sure, what all does it entail?” This response accurately summarizes Josh’s personality, both spontaneous and reliable. A message he would like to leave the readers of this article with is a quote from William Longgood: “Dreams and dedication are a powerful combination.” Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Josh Ackerson!
