Sarai Morato: Tech and Latin American News Columnist

I am excited to introduce you to Sarai Morato! This is the 10th grader’s first year with TPS. The 14-year-old will be taking AP Micro and Macroeconomics, Marine Biology, U.S. History, and English 2/3. For the other portion of her studies, she will be attending a private school in Virginia called Trinity Christian School, where she will take Honors Algebra 2 and Honors Chemistry. Sarai will also be undertaking Spanish 4 with her mother. Her major goal for this year is to travel on a mission trip to Bolivia. She desperately wishes to support a church there that is in need of new teachers and curricula for its Sunday School.

Sarai would describe herself as a major fan of Star Wars. She believes that out of all the movies that she has seen, those are the ones that she watches most. Her role model is Albert Einstein because of his passion for science and the way that he was able to break so many barriers. She relishes his creativity and his mental strength. When she goes to college, she wishes to major in environmental science or engineering and double minor in Latin-American studies and Spanish. She is bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish fluently, and wishes to learn as much as possible about her culture.

Sarai’s favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:6 which says: “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.” This particular verse speaks to her and gives her hope for the future. She believes that a lesson God is trying to instill in her right now is to trust in Him for all things, for He will be with her no matter what challenges she faces. Music is of vast importance in her life; she plays piano for her church’s praise team. Her favorite musicians are Hillsong United and Bethel Music.

She wanted to join the clay staff because she loves writing stories and reporting. She is so excited that she was chosen for the job! Sarai would describe her greatest weakness as trying to be perfect at all times. She plans on overcoming that this year by relaxing more. She will attempt not to worry about the future and instead stay within the present moment.

The farthest place that she has ever traveled was Cochabamba, Bolivia, both to visit family and to celebrate her aunt’s wedding. She hopes to make her home there someday. She also wishes to travel to Iceland, Venice, and Rome because of the beautiful architecture and landscapes. When asked what the most important year in her life was, she said that “it was probably this current year, because it sets the path for what is to come.” In ten years, she can see herself either going to Cornell University, Calvin College, or George Mason.

Clearly, Sarai Morato is a lovely and warm-hearted young lady who shines God’s light into the hearts of all who meet her. I had a wonderful time getting to know her, and I hope that you did too! Have a lovely rest of the month!
