Jake Moore, a rising sophomore, will be writing the Humor Column for clay this year, his second year writing after a two year hiatus from the column. Jake was born in 2002, and he currently lives in Virginia Beach, which is, in fact, in Virginia. He enjoys reading, drawing, and writing. He has no idea which MBTI personality type he is, but he is definitely extroverted.
An obsession and favorite hobby of his is the LEGO brick. He enjoys building with it and occasionally makes brickfilms, the LEGO fan’s term for a stop-motion LEGO movie. This involves taking many pictures of the LEGO bricks or people and moving them slightly every frame. As far as sports go, Jake plays international football (soccer for you Americans). He plays in the Hampton Roads homeschool recreational league and usually plays right defense. He enjoys listening to instrumental music as well as motion picture scores by Michael Giacchino and John Williams. Jake is a self-admitted “huge fan” of the Lord of the Rings series – both the books by J.R.R. Tolkien and the movies directed by Peter Jackson. He also loves watching the reboots of the classic shows MacGyver and Hawaii Five-0 on CBS.
This year, Jake will be taking Fall Semester SAT Prep, Chemistry, Spanish 2 (Two-Day), Graphic Foundations: Adobe Photoshop, English 4/5: Western Lit Survey: Journeys and Quests, Fall Semester World History through Film, and U.S. History through film in the spring semester. In the future, Jake’s plan is to become a forensic chemist, which basically means he would like to analyze guns, bullets, bullet casings, and narcotics. He enjoys chemistry because he likes to see cause and effect situations in action, especially when the effect reveals something about the cause. He wants to help people who risk their lives, but he would rather not join the military (too strict) or the law enforcement industry (too scary).
Jake’s favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9, which is here reproduced in the English Standard Version: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” The message that he’d like to leave people with is the following: “Love Jesus. Love people. Love LEGOs. In that order.”
